Step 1: Navigate to Tax Management

  • From your Bujeti dashboard, click on "Accounting" in the left sidebar

  • Select "Taxes" from the dropdown menu and Click the "Create Tax" button in the top right corner to open the tax configuration form

  • Fill in the following fields by entering:

    • Tax Name: Enter a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "VAT", "Withholding Tax")

    • Tax Type: Select either "Percentage" or "Flat" from the dropdown

    • Tax Rate: Enter the rate (e.g., 7.5 for 7.5% VAT)

    • Taxation Country: Select your country from the dropdown (Nigeria, Kenya, etc.)

    • Tax Description: Add context (e.g., "Standard VAT for Goods and Services - Finance Act 2023")

Step 2: Review all details for accuracy

  • Click "Create Tax"

Your tax is now active and ready to apply to transactions

Note: Enter percentages as whole numbers (7.5 for 7.5%, not 0.075). This is a common mistake that causes calculation errors.

FAQs

Q: Can I create multiple versions of the same tax?

Yes, you can create multiple taxes with different rates. This is useful when tax rates change. Create a new tax version with the updated rate and apply it to future transactions, while keeping the old version for historical records.

Q: What's the difference between Percentage and Flat tax types? Percentage taxes are calculated based on the transaction amount (e.g., 7.5% of ₦10,000 = ₦750). Flat taxes apply a fixed amount regardless of the transaction amount.

Q: Can I edit a tax after creating it? No, you can’t edit a tax after creation, but you can deactivate and create a new version with the intended changes. This preserves the accuracy of historical transactions.

Q: Which countries are currently supported? We currently support Nigeria and Kenya for Tax Management, with more African countries coming soon. You'll receive an email when tax features are activated in your country.
