Approval rules help you automate how transactions are reviewed and authorized in your organization. By setting up approval rules on Bujeti, you can define which transactions require approval, who needs to approve them, and under what conditions. This ensures financial control, reduces unauthorized spending, and maintains compliance with your company policies — all without slowing down your teams.

How to Create an Approval Rule

Step 1: Log in to your Bujeti dashboard and locate Workflow in the left sidebar menu. Click to open the Compliance section and select Approval rules

  • Click the Create New Rule button to begin setting up your approval workflow.

Step 2: Give your approval rule a clear, descriptive name that reflects its purpose (e.g., "Marketing Expenses Over ₦500,000" or "Travel Vendor Payments").

Next, customize your rule conditions to match your business requirements. You can set rules based on:

  • Amount: Require approval for transactions above or below a specific threshold

    • Example: All expenses over $5,000 need CFO approval

  • Account: Apply rules to specific bank accounts or wallets

    • Example: Transactions from the Operations Account need operations manager approval

  • Budget: Link rules to particular budgets to control departmental spending

    • Example: Marketing budget expenses need marketing lead approval

  • Category: Set conditions for specific spending categories

    • Example: All "Travel & Accommodation" expenses need HR approval

  • Vendor: Create rules for specific suppliers or vendors

    • Example: Payments to high-risk vendors need dual approval

Step 3: Select the team members who should approve transactions matching your rule conditions. You can:

  • Choose individual approvers

  • Set up multi-level approval chains (All of)

  • Require approval from any member of a group (Any of)

  • Review your rule settings to ensure everything is configured correctly from the “Flow summary“, then click Create to activate your approval rule.

Your approval rule is now active and will automatically apply to transactions that meet your specified conditions.

Before creating approval rules, ensure you have:

  • Admin or Manager permissions on your Bujeti account

  • Access to the Compliance section in your dashboard

  • A clear understanding of your company's approval hierarchy

  • Knowledge of which team members should approve specific transaction types
